Evolving hospitality trends have been seen so far in 2021.

Throughout 2020, the hospitality industry saw unprecedented disruption. Since many establishments had to close for a period during the year, many are ready to come back swinging

As venues had to adapt to the pandemic’s new trends, when 2021 trends started coming along, they were once again ready to adjust themselves accordingly.

Every year we see different trends come through the hospitality industry. Last year technology took hold of most trends, with online menus, booking systems, and ordering procedures taking over. This was mainly so that the businesses could continue running while keeping staff and patrons safe. These trends are still a constant in the hospitality businesses running today, but what about the trends we have started seeing this year.

In 2021 hospitality businesses still need to be dynamic and have the ability change with any new regulations. So far, one of the most prominent yet much-welcomed trends are the shift in consumer behavior towards hygiene. Guests now want to see reasonable efforts from the venues they visit to adhere to strict hygiene regulations. While hospitality venues have always followed strict hygiene protocols, customers now want proof. They need to be transparent and responsible for adopting and showcasing their practices to communicate their efforts to patrons

As a result, we are also seeing a trend of customers wanting increasing digitization to stay. With the introduction of QR codes being a prominent trend this year, guests are more than happy to see this. Any aspect that will lower human contact is seen as a positive in the eyes of the customer.

Listening and keeping an eye out for what is happening online has also increased. Hospitality is now having to stay aware of what is going on to keep up with new trends, patterns, and shifts and discover any problems or issues that might be upcoming. If customer behaviors are changing, you want to be listening so that your business can adapt before it becomes an issue, rather than a chance for growth.

Lastly, a significant trend that we see throughout the hospitality industry is the focus on the domestic market. With travel restrictions still in place domestically and internationally, venues are attempting to source items from domestic markets to cut down on spending and ensure that everything is delivered on time. However, this also means that patrons spend more time domestically, therefore spending their money here rather than overseas. This is also a win for local restaurants and venues attempting to make up for any losses last year.

While trends in hospitality are constantly evolving, many trends this year have been adopted by venues as they are necessary rather than to stay ahead of the game. One of the most important trends is purchasing your essential ingredients from domestic markets. If you are an Australian restaurant or hospitality venue, remember to check out Pure Dairy Food Service for a range of your restaurant’s dairy needs from a high-quality domestic supplier.
